Welcome back to Term 3

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all of our students and families for what will be another very busy Semester at Wheelers Hill Secondary College. I am hoping that the recent school holiday period was a safe and relaxing time with family and friends, and that students have been able to reflect on their studies from Semester One.

We hope that you enjoy our new format for the College Newsletter. We believe that our new format is presented in a more effective, efficient and professional manner.

Vision and Values

We are reviewing our Vision and Values statements to ensure that they are relevant and contemporary, and that they best represent our College Community with what we hope to achieve with our Teaching and Learning Program.  It is important that the review process note the four key areas of our College:

Academic Excellence Across All Learning Domains

The Arts

Student Leadership and Our Community

Our review will ensure that our Vision and Values statements are strongly linked to these key areas, and that they are reflective of how we as a College Community want to see ourselves moving into the future.

In time, we will share a draft of our Vision and Values statements with our College  Community.

Annual Implementation Plan (or AIP)

All schools are required to have an Annual Implementation Plan (or AIP).  The AIP is developed using the Framework for Improving School Outcomes (or FISO) as developed and implemented by the Department of Education (or DET). The AIP is used to assist schools achieve their goals on an annual basis.

Our Improvement Initiatives as outlined in our 2017 AIP are:

- Building practice excellence

- Curriculum planning and assessment

- Empowering students and building school pride

Our Leadership Team is currently working through our AIP to gauge current progress and improvement against these initiatives.  Our staff have also been invited to provide feedback.  Families interested in our AIP for this year are encouraged to contact the General Office.

Year 7 Enrolments, 2018

We are pleased with the significant increase in Enrolments.  We are planning on five Year 7 Home Groups in 2018.  The interest in our College continues to grow and we are furthering our connections with many primary schools.  Information relating to Year 7 Scholarship Applications for 2018 will be made available soon.

The wearing of a School Uniform promotes a sense of identity and pride, whilst also having the ability to further enhance the profile of our school in the community.

We have very high expectations for our students with respect to Uniform.  We want all of our students to be wearing the correct uniform to the highest possible standard showing great pride in their school. Whilst students adhere to our Uniform Policy and families are supportive of the College in this regard, we are always looking for ideas as to how we can further improve our School Uniform. If any of our students and families have ideas as to how we can make any further improvements, please contact me via the General Office.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at each school. It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi. The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September. For further information contact the General Office or visit:

We value feedback from our parents as it assists us in developing policy, programs and activities that can further improve student outcomes.
