The Library Resource Centre provides a stimulating and collaborative learning environment catering for all students at Wheelers Hill Secondary College.
Our staff use modern and engaging techniques to stimulate interest in reading amongst our students. Experienced library staff are at hand from 8.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. daily to assist students with their assignment work and navigate their way through the information maze. Our Library Resource Centre can be used by teaching staff throughout the day with their classes to support learning.
Research and Information Literacy
The key goal of the library is to promote information literacy skills amongst our students. In the modern world the meaning of literacy has expanded beyond the ability to read and write.
Our students need to be familiar with different types of resources and delivery systems. We build their skills to enable them to understand, interpret and communicate the material they read, view and hear. Literate students understand how to transform raw information into personal knowledge and build lifelong learning skills.
The library provides 24 hr access to many resources including the library catalogue, ClickView (digital video system), ‘Your Library Online’ which includes links to ECHO (Issues database) and other commonly used online resources. We also pride ourselves in maintaining an extensive fiction collection supporting recreational reading throughout the school.
In recent times, the level of borrowing from our Library Resource Centre has increased dramatically such is the interest in reading from our students.
