Wellbeing


Student Wellbeing can be defined as, a sustainable state of positive mood and attitude, resilience and satisfaction with self, relationships and experiences at school. Efforts to promote student wellbeing require a whole-school rather than a siloed approach.

WHSC Commitment to Supporting our Students

As part of our commitment to student wellbeing, Wheelers Hill Secondary College employs a Student Wellbeing Team to provide local and ongoing support for a range of issues.

Our Student Wellbeing Team is lead by our counsellor, Ms. Celine Tsang

 

Department Counsellors and Psychologists are also available as appropriate.

 

Collectively, the student wellbeing team brings a wealth of experience in supporting our students navigate their way through the various social and emotional challenges they may face. We offer a supportive and preventative approach to Student Wellbeing through our Student Wellbeing Framework and through the use of the WHSC Student Planner.

 

Challenges faced by students may include:

 

  • Social difficulties
  • Emotional challenges
  • Academic and organisational support
  • Learning needs
  • Family challenges, including family break-up,
  • Grief and loss
  • School refusal
  • Risk taking behaviours
  • Mental health

 

The wellbeing team at Wheelers Hill offers a range of personalised support to our students and their families such as, individual counselling for students, referral to external support services, positive mental health promotion and relevant school-wide student wellbeing programs, financial support for families in need and consultation with parents regarding the learning, behavioural, social or emotional concerns of their child.

  • Thriving youth Mental Health Mentors
  • ISMO- In School Mentoring Opportunity (RAISE foundation)
  • Well established House System
  • Peer Support
  • Extended Home group Sessions
  • Cyber safety
  • Anti-violence and Harassment presentations
  • Getting along with others
  • Positive Education initiatives
